Angels Trip To The Grocery Store

I’m back with a great experience to share with you!

It’s amazing when you pay attention to the little things in life. Most people are running around throughout their days and they don’t pay attention to what’s going on around them. I’m not saying I always do, but I try to make a conscious effort to.

You’d be amazed at the things you notice, and how you really can connect with others…

Keep Your Eyes Open

I was at the grocery store yesterday. I went to pick up a few things to make for dinner before my trip to the tuxedo place to get a tux for my sons prom. I was hanging out in the produce area of the store, since that’s mostly what I buy when I go to the store. I try and eat only unprocessed foods… just a little side tidbit for ya!

I was cruising around picking up some sweet potatoes, broccoli, lettuce, and a few other fruits and veggies. I turned around that there was a little old lady standing there looking at the watermelons. She was so still and just in deep thought.

I thought for a moment “what’s she thinking about?”. I didn’t want to look like I was being nosy or anything, so I walked around the aisle I was in, and came so I was facing her. I got to the spot where I was directly across from her, and she was still staring without a pause at the watermelons.

She must have felt me looking at her, so she glanced up and smiled. I was surprised by her smile. I was figuring she was going to be not so nice. It’s amazing the first reaction you have when something happens in your life. It’s usually not the way it will play out…Laughing babies: the ancient practice of forcing strangers to look at pictures of your children basi

The only words that came to mind that moment were “nice melons, huh?”. It would’ve been fine if the words just stayed in my mind, but they actually came out of my mouth. I came to the realization that I said that out loud pretty much after it was all already out.

Total Silence…

There was a long pause of silence. Well, it seemed like there was a long pause… it probably was more like 5 seconds, but it felt like a full few minutes. Then like it was choreographed, the old lady and I started cracking up laughing!

I think I was laughing just as hard, if not as hard as I ever laughed in my entire life so far. We were literally cracking up. Full blown laughter! Uncontrollable laughing, which is the absolute best kind there is.

Other people around us started laughing too. It was like a virus, it started to spread throughout the entire store. When there was a break where we were coming up for air, you’d hear someone on the aisle next to us cracking up. It was the funniest moment in my life!

The thing that I love most about it was that it was totally unplanned. It was me just following my instinct to walk around the other side of the aisle, and just go with the flow. I don’t think if I planned it the words of choice would’ve been “nice melons, huh?”.

After the laughing fit ended… well, it never really ended. We were still chuckling all the way until we left the store. It was kind of funny what happened in that place for that 20-30 minutes of life. I know that everyone that caught the laughs will remember that moment for the rest of their lives..

It definitely was one of those shining defining moments. It’s one that you tell the story to people all throughout your life. It was pretty magical. I remember feeling overflowed with joy.

Here’s my little take on the story:

Be easier about life. Be open to connecting with others around you. Get out of your head. That’s just my take… and I’m going to be taking my own advice more as well!
